Glossary of Grant Terms
Last reviewed: April 2026
This glossary is designed to reduce ambiguity in internal drafting and client conversations. Definitions are written in practical language and should not be treated as formal legal definitions unless the official scheme wording says so.
Common terms
| Stage | Description |
|---|---|
| Co-funding | A funding model where the business bears part of the cost and grant support covers only a portion of eligible expenditure. |
| Eligible cost | A cost category the scheme may support, subject to rules, timing, and evidence. |
| Claim | The reimbursement stage where the applicant submits evidence for approved and completed work. |
| Clarification | A follow-up request seeking more detail or explanation after submission. |
| Change request | A request to document and seek approval for material changes in scope, budget, timeline, or delivery arrangement. |
| Pre-approved solution | A solution or vendor pathway already recognised under a scheme or programme route, subject to live conditions. |
Important note
Note: Where a term has a scheme-specific definition on the live official page or portal, that live wording should take precedence.
